Betolar signs its first commercial agreement in Germany with FC Nüdling Group
Betolar's business in Central Europe continues to expand. Betolar Plc and the German FC Nüdling Group (FCN) have entered into a commercial agreement to use the Geoprime solution in the production of low-carbon concrete products. The agreement is Betolar's first in the German market.
FCN produces concrete elements for garden and landscape design as well as road and housing construction. The first product group is pavers, but the use of Geoprime can gradually be expanded to other product groups as well.
FCN is the leading manufacturer in its market areas in Thuringia and Hesse in Central Germany. Its total annual volume of concrete products is 500,000 tons. FCN will have the exclusive right to use the Geoprime concept and chemicals in the manufacture of its concrete products for five years in its market area. It also has the right to use the registered Geoprime trademark in its products manufactured in accordance with the concept.
“It is important for us to be able to start the production of low-carbon concrete products in the German market. The demand for sustainable concrete products is growing rapidly. By the end of 2024, we aim to be in the production of low-carbon concrete at an annual rate of 50,000 tons. Geoprime will allow us to move gradually to low-carbon concrete products in all our units,” says Bernhard Klöppner, CEO of the F.C.Nüdling Betonelemente.
FCN benefits from Betolar's continuous product development, expert services and data support in the manufacture of the products. The basic structure of a commercial Geoprime agreement consists of a volume-based licence fee, chemical sales and a fixed ongoing maintenance fee.
“Low-carbon concrete solutions contribute to EU's Green Deal initiatives. For us at Betolar, it is very important to show our market capability in Germany and thus strengthen the expansion of our international business. Germany is a large market, and the initiation of operations with one manufacturer enables replication of business to other market areas in Germany,” says Matti Löppönen, Betolar’s CEO.
Betolar has developed the Geoprime solution for the production of durable, sustainable and low-carbon concrete by utilising industrial side streams as an alternative for cement. Betolar thus enables the green transition of different industries and makes concrete a sustainable building material.
“During the piloting phase we have seen that FCN shares our vision of a greener future and is an optimal partner for entering the market rather quickly,” says Janne Rauramo, Betolar's Vice President, European Operations.
The Geoprime solution brings immediate reductions in CO2 emissions without major changes in the manufacturing process. Betolar is developing a recipe-optimising data platform that will bring together concrete manufacturers and side streams producers.
