Betolar to develop cementless rockfill solution for Canadian Royalties Inc.
Betolar will be developing a customized 100% cement- free rockfill solution for Canadian Royalties Inc’s Nunavik Nickel Project. Betolar’s innovative solution replaces cement with industrial sidestreams in rockfill application and offers a cost- competitive and effective way of reducing CO2 emissions in mining. The companies are targeting to commercialize the solution early 2026 based on techno-commercial study and piloting.
"We are excited to collaborate with Canadian Royalties and demonstrate the value addition of our cementless rockfill solution in the Canadian market. This solution offers up to 60-80% carbon reduction vs. traditional cement-based process” says Pasi Karekivi, Betolar's Business Development Director, Mining & Metals.
"Canadian Royalties has a strong focus on sustainability and decarbonization of our operations. Betolar’s new innovative initiative enables us to achieve large carbon emission reduction without process changes or capital expenditure" says Julien Cameron, Director of Technical Services & Projects at Canadian Royalties Inc.
This partnership is important for Betolar as it represents the company's entry into the Canadian market. Betolar's role is pivotal because of its expertise in developing low-carbon solutions that are both innovative and commercially viable. The cementless rockfill solution not only helps in reducing carbon footprints but also provides a sustainable and cost-effective alternative for the mining sector.
Betolar has introduced mining industry solutions alongside low-carbon construction solutions. In accordance with its strategy, the company aims to become a significant growth driver in the mining industry, as the sector’s companies are large users of cement. The commercial potential is vast, as Betolar's innovative solutions address the growing demand for sustainable practices and carbon reduction in mining operations globally.
“This project marks a significant milestone for Betolar, as it demonstrates the mining industry’s growing interest in innovative, low-carbon, and cost-efficient solutions, and opens up entry into the Canadian market for us,” says Tuija Kalpala, President and CEO of Betolar.
